UK National LGBT Sports Steering Group

2008 saw Pride Sports host the first national lgbt sports summit, where delegates voted to set up the first National LGBT Sports Network.  This work has been undertaken by a steering group which includes representatives that have become the first National LGBT Sports steering group.  It includes representatives from sports groups and clubs from around the UK.  It is a strategic advocacy body, that is connecting with sports National Governing Bodies (NGBs), Sport England, the London organising committee for the Olympics 2012 and with knowledge sharing, mutual support and co-operation is at its heart.

There are currently three main areas of lgbt sports activity around the UK and they are in Greater Manchester, London and Brighton. Away from the main areas of activity, groups largely operate with little knowledge about what else there.

Since formation there has been two national sports summits and regular quarterly meetings of the national steering group. The next summit is planned for June 2010 in Cardiff.
