Ministerial Recognition for Pride Sports
Saturday, 23 May 2009
Minister for the Olympics, Tessa Jowell, avknowledges the important work of Pride Sports in bringing the EGLSFs (European Lesbian and Gay Sports Federation) Annual General Assembly to Manchester 5-7th March 2010. She said,
"It is good news indeed that Manchester is to host the next AGA of the EGLSF in 2010. Not only will this event, as you say, have a lasting impacton the UK LGBT community, but it is also a fantastic opportunity in which to showcase tolerance, diversity and the unifying power of sport".
"Diversity and inclusion was absolutely crucial to our Olympic bid and is equally crucial in our delivery of the Games. The London organising committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has a number of ways in which they are ensuring that they engage with the LGBT community, including having ambassadors for LGBT issues".
"I congratulate all involved in securing the EGLSF AGA in 2010 for the City of Manchester".
